We’ve known the day would come–what with Backcountry.com crushing the outdoor gear market and all–but they’ve finally pulled the trigger… the SRAM X.9 trigger that is! Backcountry.com, one of our long-time favorite outdoor gear retailers has now expanded their product line to include bike gear: clothing, accessories and parts.
Their current selection is mainly soft goods with helmets, jerseys, shoes, etc. But, they are expanding fast with a fair selection of Shimano and SRAM components as well as Crank Brothers, WTB and more. It may be awhile before they are selling bike gear on the volumes of a JensonUSA, PerformanceBike or PricePoint, but I’m sure they will get there within a season or two.
So, with Backcountry.com getting into the online bike retail market, do you think they’ll make a big splash? Do you think the old guard online retailers should be concerned?
What’s your favorite online bike retailer and why?

I am a fan of Backcountry for sure, and I think this is the right move —- the folks who climb & ski also bike, and if they can provide the right prices then why wouldn’t you buy from them? They have the customer service part nailed.
