Ruggedness meets comfort – the Mountain Khakis Alpine Utility pant meets style, function, and comfort standards for the Jackson Hole wannabe. This pant has the guy in mind who despises shopping. Give me the pant that fits and performs so I can move on.
The Mountain Khakis Alpine Utility Pant
Three points of reinforcement make this pant the ultimate do-it-all pant without sacrificing mobility.
- Ankles
- Knees
- Butt
I got stuck working in the snow with no gaiters or fancy GORE-TEX pants. All I had was this pant and a wish to not die of hypothermia. The reinforced ankles were an absolute life saver as snow would build up around my boots. They definitely weren’t ideal, but the construction of the pant took a serious beating that day.
Mountain Khaki breaks down a stigma of having to be uncomfortable in a work pant. At first the pant is very stiff and rigid but they break-in over just a couple days. Reinforced knees seem like a problem but surprisingly I can move around quite freely. I pulled some junipers out in my front yard and the thickness of the material was perfect to keep the nasty pokies off my skin. If you’ve ever executed junipers – you know what I’m talking about.
I also cut down a tree in my yard and was covered in tree sap. I washed the pant twice and they came out clean. Durable is the game with Mountain Khaki. You can tell by the construction of these pants, the company probably beats the crap out of their clothing repeatedly. I wouldn’t be surprised if they have loggers visit their office frequently to discuss pant design over a pint.
Mobile. Casual. Tough As Moon Rocks.
I like wearing these pants to work. They pretty much say, “Hi, I’m really professional and have good fashion sense. I can make a raft out of that tree you just parked next to. Just say the word.” On a hot day they can be pretty intense. With the protection they provide it’s worth it to me. The reinforced knees almost feel like micro knee pads were sewn into the fabric.
I wouldn’t be surprised if lifty’s started wearing these on a spring day with a light merino bottom underneath. I sure would. Maybe throw on some Nikwax from the knee down. That way you can keep the steez and not freeze.
Super Cool Belt Buckle by Mountain Khakis
Backcountry offers the one of a kind glass belt buckle in 4 colors. I’ve worn the orange/brown for a couple weeks now and have never gotten more compliments than anything I’ve ever worn. That includes my uber cool MC Hammer/Vanilla Ice concert tee from 1986. You may want to bend in the hook a bit, I’ve had my come un-done a couple times. No biggie.

I keep hearing about these and swearing I’m gonna try a pair…
It took me a while too. The style is quite cool. I look at carhartt and I get hives. I have a carharrt softshell and it’s no bueno. (pretty sure I don’t know how to spell carhart.)
LOL… I love the review, Adam. You are so masterful at the English language, it’s great that you’ve picked it up so quickly, being New Mexican and all.
Looks like MK’s are the real deal, it’s time to get a pair for my upcoming secret stash clearing in certain undisclosed locations along the Wasatch Front.
Call me when you go on your clearing missions. I promise I won’t disclose the locations to anyone…
I’m so glad you can understand my New Mexi language. I’ll definitely have to come up for a clearing session, just got to get my passport being out of the country and everything.
