Backcountry Description: The Campagnolo Hyperon One Clincher Wheelset has a 100% carbon fiber rim identical to the rim used in the top shelf Hyperon Ultra Two. It wasn't simply a matter of modifying the tubular Hyperon rim, but instead required the production of a completely new rim. Issues that are of minimal note for a tubular are primary concerns for a clincher -- resistance to forces such as tire pressure, brake-induced high temperatures and road shock all had to be directly addressed.The low-profile design of the Hyperon One clincher rims minimizes inertia and guarantees comfort during long races. The front rim is 21mm deep and the rear is 23mm deep. The rear wheel is built in a differential fashion -- its spoking pattern and asymmetrical rim are engineered to improve lateral stiffness and transmission of power while reducing the disparity in spoke tension between the drive and non-drive side spokes. Instead of the carbon fiber hub shell of the Hyperon Two, the Hyperon One uses an aluminum shell. While both the Hyperon One and Two use cup and cone hub bearings, the One uses stainless steel where the Two uses ceramics. The Hyperon One uses burnished spokes instead of the stainless steel spokes found on the Hyperon Two, with an anti-rotation spoke system that prevents them from twisting either in the stand or out on the road. Your aero shaped spokes will always be aligned as intended for efficiency. In addition, the Hyperon One uses a lightweight alloy freehub body and titanium pawl carrier. The right-side flange on the Hyperon One rear hub has a larger diameter and their G3 spoking pattern to ensure efficient torque transfer. The drive side has 16 tangentially laced spokes and the non-drive has 8 radial for a total of 24 rear wheel spokes. By doubling the number of right over left side spokes on the rear wheel, the G3 pattern reduces stress on the drive side spokes and betters the wheel's lateral stiffness. The front wheel has 22 radial laced spokes.
