REI Description: With precision and responsiveness, the SRAM Apex front derailleur guides your chain quickly between your front 2 chainrings. Tough aluminum body with sturdy steel cage is designed with intuitive adjusters for smooth and precise upshifts and downshifts. Standardized for use with both traditional and compact ring sets. Compatible with 55/42, 54/42, 53/39, 52/38, 52/36, 50/36, 50/34, 46/38, 46/34 chainrings (no more than 16T maximum difference between large and small chainrings). The SRAM Apex front derailleur is available as braze-on or with a 34.9mm or 31.8mm clamp size; average weight is for braze-on version, clamps are slightly heavier.

Backcountry Description: The entirety of SRAM's Apex group is centered on the principle of reduced weight and increased simplicity. Of course, this means that Apex features a double chainring configuration. And the Apex Front Derailleur is designed to flawlessly marry the DoubleTap Apex shifter with the two Powerglide rings on the crank. Their ZeroLoss system ensures that as soon as you make the shift at the lever, the derailleur is making an instant change for the shift. The Apex Front Derailleur has aluminum links in the body and a steel cage for stiffness and shifting precision. It works equally well with either standard or compact chainring sets. It's available in three versions -- Braze-on, 31.8mm clamp, and 34.9mm clamp.
