Product Descriptions
RealCyclist Description: The difference in front shifting technology is a point of distinction between Red and Force. The most important details are on the other end of the shifter cable -- at the left DoubleTap shift lever. From a structural standpoint the one distinct change between Red and Force is the new, hardened titanium cage for the Red front derailleur. This makes the Red derailleur nearly 20g lighter than Force, and allows for quick and smooth shifts and adjustments. The braze-on version weighs 58g, while the clamp-on versions weigh 72g. Like Force, the Red front derailleur works equally well whether you're using a compact crankset (50/34) or a standard one (53/39).

SRAM Red Front Derailleurs

I have had zero luck with them. I love the Red gruppo but the cage is not strong enough and bends when shifting from the small ring to the large ring and thus does not shift. Pain trying to go up a hill in the big ring. Called SRAM and got them to admit they are looking into this especially after I learned Cancellarra uses a SS SRAM derailleur. Switch to SRAM APEX SS and it shifts smooth. Red needs to figure this out. Other than that, I love SRAM Red and would only consider the Di2 gruppo if I wanted to dump the coin on it.
