RockCreek Description: The award-winning Suunto Core gathers a range of data to help you navigate your way through the wilder parts of the world.AltimeterThe altimeter features a range up to 9000m (29 500 ft). It is ideally suited for all activities where knowing your altitude and ascent and descent rates is essential. The Core altimeter sports an altitude difference measurement that allows you to track your progress in terms of altitude climbed. The log recorder stores all your movements in altitude between the start and stop times, so you can re-live your trip at home - view graphs of changes in altitude during your treks, find out how much you climbed, the duration of ascents and descents, average ascent and descent speed and more.BarometerSuunto Core displays the current sea level pressure as a detailed graph, showing recording of the last 24 hours with a recording interval of 30 minutes. The weather trend indicator is a useful feature providing quick reference to check upcoming weather conditions. The storm alarm notifies you of a sudden drop in air pressure, which may be related to worsening weather conditions.Automatic Alti/Baro switchSuunto Core sports an Automatic Alti/Baro switch, a smart feature that senses your movement or lack thereof, switching between altimeter and barometer accordingly. When you?re climbing, it records changes in elevation. And when you stop to rest, it records changes in barometric pressure. A drop in air pressure while you?re sleeping under the stars will be recorded for what it really is: a change in barometric pressure, not altitudeCompassThe digital compass displays the cardinal or half-cardinal point and the North. The declination adjustment function allows you to correct the difference between the true North and magnetic North. You can also set it to track a certain bearing, which helps you follow a chosen direction in the terrain. The compass features a rotating bezel for traditional use (most variants), or a one-touch function that all

great watch

I'll try to give some info that hasn't been covered by the others. I have found that as an altimeter, this watch is very accurate. Run after run on Okemo and Killington this watch tracked altitude changes very well (about +- 30ft or so). The only problem I've encountered is that it needs regular calibration, due to changes in barometric pressure through the day. I don't see this as a fault in the watch, but in altimeters in general. There really isn't any way your watch knows if you are changing altitude, or the barometric pressure is changing. The watch only measures absolute pressure. So as long as you calibrate it (which is very easy, just read the manual) with either sea level reference pressure or current altitude every few hours or so, It will remain true. The thermometer is accurate, as long as you take it off and give it 10min or so to equalize; your body heat will cause it to run high. I only have 2 problems with this watch. 1) the automatic feature, which is supposed to switch between altimiter and barometer without you calibrating it, doesn't work in my opinion. If you want accuracy, calibrate it yourself. 2) The Alu Black watch is kind of hard to read. I wish the display was brighter.Other than that I am satisfied. I haven't encountered the technical problems that other reviewers have reported, mabey I got lucky. I agree with the reviewer who recommends getting a new battery right off the bat, they are very cheap anyway. One last thing, this watch will set off metal detectors.
