Product Descriptions
REI Description: All hail the Yakima KingJoe Pro 3 trunk bike carrier! Rugged steel construction solidly supports up to 3 bikes on the back of your car. Improved QuickTrigger Hub system features an easy-to-use large handle, making setup a breeze. Independent bike arm adjustment dials in the fit or folds arms down when not in use. The KingJoe Pro 3 is ideal for hatchbacks, vans and SUV's. Integrated StableCradles hold bikes firmly in place. Narrow bike arms fit your bike frame and ease loading. Large padded feet provide protection and stability; padded metal buckles protect vehicle finish. 6 retention straps ensure a rock-solid fit; reinforced steel cable glass hatch hooks are included for use on glass trunks or gate mounts.

Backcountry Description: The KingJoe Pro 3 is Yakima's burliest strap-mount bike rack yet. KingJoe the Third, the rear-mounting rack, didn't gain his title by inheritance. He earned it with his six-strap system and ability to fit a vast range of vehicle trunks. In fact, the KingJoe Pro 3 fits more trunks than any other Yakima strap-mount rack. The KingJoe Pro 3 also holds a wide variety of bikes, and carries up to three of them. Yakima's Quick Trigger Hub System makes installing this ruler-of-bikes as easy as pie. King Joe's padded feet protect his royal carriage's paint job, and his folding arms make him easy to store. *If you're not sure the KingJoe Pro 3 will fit your car or bike, feel free to call one of our knowledgeable gearheads.

dented car, tough fit for some bikes

Used the KingJoe Pro 3 on the back of a 2011 Subaru Outback with three bikes - 1 adult mountain bike, 1 adult small women's hybrid and 1 kids 24. The lower support area which meets the vehicle just below the license plate left a sizeable dent in the gate. The mountain bike fit fine but bikes with angled top tubes are tough. It's difficult to not have the handle bars from one bike sticking through the spokes of the other.

Does the job

Quickly straps to my 2003 VW GTI (Golf) and carries my bike with ease. PROS: Very sturdy, durable, well built, easily adjusted, easy to use, folds into self when you aren't carrying bikes. CONS: My full-suspension bike (Santa Cruz) won't slide past the first set of straps/mounts due to the suspension/frame design. Rack carries 3 Road bikes O.K., but 3 mountain bikes isn't easily done. I'm sure the construction would carry the weight, it's a matter of room when it comes to carrying them. Has plenty of room for 2 mtn bikes though. Overall, I would buy this again and recommend it.
