Sierra Designs Vapor 15 Sleeping Bag Review

Posted in Gear Reviews, Outdoor Gear by Adam Buchanan - 07.26.2010

People ask me all the time, “Which sleeping bag should I get?” and I’m very tempted to answer now with the Sierra Designs Vapor 15 and then awkwardly walk away. Had the chance to take it out this last weekend and with my new found enthusiasm for this bag I decided to turn my article into a twitter feed.

Hi, GEAR.COM Reader. Sierra Designs Vapor 15 (SierraDesignsVapor15) is now following your tweets on Twitter.

A little information about Sierra Designs Vapor 15:

2 bagillion followers, even Lindsey Lohan.
20 tweets
following 0 people, the Vapor 15 doesn’t have to follow anyone, it beats its own path of awesomeness.

@SierraDesignsVapor15 Just got my tag snipped off, it’s show time!

@SierraDesignsVapor15 “Lightest 15 degree bag on the market” <—That’s me!

@SierraDesignsVapor15 Thrown into a #granitegear size large compression sack just now. Sucked in the gut and can still fit a Big Agnes Air Core pad next to me.

@SierraDesignsVapor15 Good thing I had a light breakfast, my 1lb. 11oz. shouldn’t weigh down this pack too much.

@SierraDesignsVapor15 Looks like we are finally here. Sure is nice to let this 850 fill down feathers breath a bit. Can’t believe I fit in that tiny compression sack.

@SierraDesignsVapor15 Does this half zipper make me look fat?

@SierraDesignsVapor15 Mr. Backpacker just spilt some oatmeal on me. My 15D nylon is cleaning up nicely though.

@SierraDesignsVapor15 I’m glad I have two straps on the bottom to wrap around a sleeping pad. Also glad this Big Agnes pad is using deodorant, could have been a stinky night.

@SierraDesignsVapor15 Temps are getting down to 20 or so. Can’t actually tell since I’m a sleeping bag. Still puzzled on how I started my own Twitter account….

@SierraDesignsVapor15 CON’T or how I’m getting service in the Colorado backcountry.

@SierraDesignsVapor15 Mr. Backpacker here is sleeping pretty comfortable even though I’m not the widest bag in the world. Gotta little drool on the hood though, it’s all good.

@SierraDesignsVapor15 This fitted hood is keeping this guy from losing his pillow. #highfive to the design team!

@SierraDesignsVapor15 The wind is picking up, initiating DRAFT TUBE POWERS! #warmthsustained

@SierraDesignsVapor15 Getting a warmer outside, here comes the sun…la la la la…Shoot. Now that song is going to be stuck in my head.

@SierraDesignsVapor15 No condensation for me. This 15D packs a punch!

@SierraDesignsVapor15 Really getting warm now but regulating the temperature as best as I can.

@SierraDesignsVapor15 Breakfast and then back on the trail. Mission Accomplished.

@SierraDesignsVapor15 Don’t let the $419 price tag scare you off. I work hard all night so you don’t have to. I mean business.

Sierra Designs Vapor 15 Sleeping Bag

I had the best nights sleep with the Vapor 15. I usually have a -15 down by Mountain Hardwear, the Big Bang, and it obviously is too hot for most of what I do. The Vapor 15 definitely is a lot smaller than most bags. The down fill and the slimmed down nylon make up for it though. And who can beat the pack size and weight for that kind of warmth? Seriously.

The price tag is steep, $419 clams for a sleeping bag is pretty intense but honestly, you will NEVER have to buy another bag. This thing is very versatile and could handle warmer temps. I noticed I wasn’t cooking too bad in the warmer morning so I will definitely be using this for summer and winter.

This bag will knock your socks off, then keep your feet warm with it’s ergonomic footbox.
