the GEAR.com Show: Scott Mission 183cm Alpine Skis

Posted in Ski Gear by Jason Mitchell - January 10th, 2008

Scott USA doesn’t just make goggles and poles. They actually make some of the most bomber alpine skis on the market. And, for you mountain and road bikers, you know their bikes to be some of the best in the industry.

The Scott Mission 183’s feature a 130mm tip, 90 mm waist and 116mm tail. The tip is built using their Pro Tip technology and the sidecut is actually a subtle dual-radius sidecut for different arcs depending on how hard you pressure them. Check out www.ScottUSA.com for more info. They are available at Backcountry.com for a reasonable $574.95.

I look forward to the actual review. The product info commercial only goes so far…are you going to ski some other ~90mm waist skis too? IE Head IM88, Mojo 90, Line Prophet 90, etc etc?

Do you happen to know if these Scott skis have any metal in them? Titanium? Are there other Scott skis in the lineup with slightly wider waist widths?

I don’t believe the Scott Mission 183’s have any metal in them… just wood and some sort of braided fiberglass for torsional rigidity.

Yeah, the Scott P4 is their big dog at 134/108/123 in a 181cm length.

Hey JOSHG… I have skied the Head MoJo 90 and LOVED them overall. I mounted them about 2cm back from center and found that to be perfect. I’ll see if I can get on a few others in the 90mm width area for comparison.

I skied the Scott Mission’s today at Sundance. It took only one turn before realizing how freaking awesome these skis were. They carve up the crud and pow like nobody’s business. Then, on the groomers, they can carve tight turns, or big arcs with the smoothness of Face Man.

I love it when a plan comes together.
